| RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Homocystinuria: Diagnostic tests, biochemistry,
clinical features, and therapy (with Barber GW, Biochemistry
Section, Wills Eye Hospital Research Institute) discovered
first case (reported after Carson's report), first characterized
and published first report regarding clinical findings,
platelet aggregation abnormalities, specific screening
test, incidence of disease in United States and effect
of pyridoxine on disease.
Research activities have centered around the characterization
and natural history of the cardinal manifestations of
glaucoma: the history, the anterior chamber angle, the
visual field and the optic nerve. These are studied using
the facilities of the William and Anna Goldberg Glaucoma
Service and Research Laboratories and the Glaucoma Research
Clinic (GRC). Personnel currently include three full time
clinical fellows, five full-time research fellows, two
full-time clinical coordinators, the Glaucoma Research
Center coordinator, and the Glaucoma Research Center Director
and Medical Board.
Selective Active Projects Include:
-
Normal Development of the Anterior
Chamber Angle
-
Characterization of the Normal Optic
Nerve Head
-
Relation Between Blood Flow of the
Retina, Optic Nerve, and Visual Loss
-
