Dr. Rick (Aug 24, 2005 9:06:00 PM)
I would like to get a feeling from the chatters about the necessity of the weekly frequency of the chat. We have covered a lot of subjects that are now in the archives so much of what we cover each time is review. Would chatters be happier with fewer chats but at more varied times, eg. rotate from Monday through Thursday and then one on aweekend afternoon or would that be confusing?

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:06:43 PM)
Too confusing Dr Rick.

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:06:45 PM)
I think Wednesday is well known to folks and across the internet, so I do think changing days might cause confusion.

barb (Aug 24, 2005 9:06:50 PM)
very confusing--

CountryGirl (Aug 24, 2005 9:06:54 PM)
I think it should stay on Wed night

patd (Aug 24, 2005 9:07:00 PM)
I very much like the weekly meeting at a fixed time.

Dr. Rick (Aug 24, 2005 9:07:00 PM)
Perhaps we should put this on the Bionic Eye and have everyone vote their preference.

Lauren (Aug 24, 2005 9:07:08 PM)
I think it should stay on Wed too!

Peg (Aug 24, 2005 9:07:11 PM)
Dr. Rick, I am so grateful to you for your generosity every week, I'd agree to any time

patd (Aug 24, 2005 9:07:36 PM)
Yes, that's true. Please let us know what you'd like, Dr. Rick.

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:07:42 PM)
How about a survey posted on the WIlls site, instead of B.E.? That's where we had that survey years ago.

CountryGirl (Aug 24, 2005 9:07:49 PM)
I also think the questions may be repetitive because we get new people all the time

marni (Aug 24, 2005 9:07:52 PM)
I agree - a set time. A BE vote would be a good idea

Dr. Rick (Aug 24, 2005 9:07:59 PM)
One of the problems is that people on the west coast have to chat at 5:30 and those from England etc are in the middle of the night. A Sunday afternoon chat would allow them to participate more easily.

Dr. Rick (Aug 24, 2005 9:10:56 PM)
I'll leave it up to Viv and Norma to collect everyones opinion. The website is a good idea since those at the chat tonight obviously can easily get here but doesn't allow the opinions of those who cannot.

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:37:15 PM)
I wish Dr. Rick would let us know what day and time is best for HIM!

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:37:18 PM)
Barb no problem. It was a little bumpy...of all nights for my connection to go down!

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:37:26 PM)
Yes, I agree Norma.

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:37:33 PM)
I think he is generally busy all the time.

carol (Aug 24, 2005 9:37:34 PM)
Thank you - providing I have not had some sort of surgery by then I will - thank you

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:37:40 PM)
That would be the easiest Norma

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:37:47 PM)
When I asked Dr. Speath what Wed work for him to come back...

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:37:57 PM)
Viv, the point is, Viv, he is tired at night. He puts in long days.

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:38:08 PM)
his secretary gave me two weds for the rest of the year...the rest he had things!

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:38:20 PM)
I agree! He has not said what works for him.

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:38:25 PM)
We can ask HIM next week.

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:38:28 PM)
He suggested Sunday afternoons. I would have thought he would hate to work on weekends

barb (Aug 24, 2005 9:38:32 PM)
Maybe Sunday afternoon is good for him

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:38:40 PM)
Sunday, football

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:38:49 PM)
Myabe it is but for how mnay others?

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:38:56 PM)
Might just be him ;)

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:39:04 PM)
It would be Monday here so no problem

Tom51 (Aug 24, 2005 9:39:15 PM)
The poll on B.E is a good idea.

Maria (Aug 24, 2005 9:39:23 PM)
maybe they can do Sun. 1X/mo

barb (Aug 24, 2005 9:39:45 PM)
good suggestion Maria

Maria (Aug 24, 2005 9:39:49 PM)
and skip that Wed.

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:40:08 PM)
Tom, I think it should be on this web site. That's where we put the survey about holding moderated chats some years ago.

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:40:44 PM)
Have to make it an obvious poll. I don't look too closely at the site. Usually go straight to where I know something is.

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:40:47 PM)
Tom, remember, we are limited to the number of messages we can have at one time on B.E. :)

Vivian (Aug 24, 2005 9:40:57 PM)
Yes at the site is ok. We can post a note on the BE alerting folks. However, getting feedback from people here is also key!

Tom51 (Aug 24, 2005 9:40:59 PM)
norma.....Point taken

carol (Aug 24, 2005 9:41:01 PM)
I think it is very very generous of him to give his time in this way - I don't know too many doctors that would make such a committment - but I don't know the history either.

Vivian (Aug 24, 2005 9:41:29 PM)
You can learn more about the history of this chat room in the latest editon of Searhclight on Glaucoma online at the website.

Vivian (Aug 24, 2005 9:41:37 PM)
it has a great article about Mon. NOrma

carol (Aug 24, 2005 9:41:46 PM)
I'll look for it - thanks.

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:41:48 PM)
And see Norma's photo!

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:42:21 PM)
Carol, in 7 years I have not been able to find any glaucoma doc willing to do what Dr. Rick does. Of course, I guess I could have spent more time and energy on that project.

Maria (Aug 24, 2005 9:42:34 PM)
Viv, why did Dr. Rick bring up this issue?

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:42:39 PM)
True Marie

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:43:00 PM)
Maria, they wouldn't run the one in the bikini!

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:43:01 PM)
Maria, I think because it can difficult to come up new topics.

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:43:12 PM)
I can imgaine most docs have had enough in a normal working week.

carol (Aug 24, 2005 9:43:40 PM)
Is anyboy here actually a patient of his?

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:43:49 PM)
The docs see patients all day and answer the same questions thousands of times. I sure would not want to do it.

Maria (Aug 24, 2005 9:43:57 PM)
I wondered if people have asked him to avail them of the service?

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:44:23 PM)
Maria, what do you mean?

Tom51 (Aug 24, 2005 9:44:25 PM)
Perhaps if we had the occasional moderated chats without the docs like we do on occasion....say one wedseday a month....or similar

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:44:49 PM)
Tom, I think that's a good idea.

CountryGirl (Aug 24, 2005 9:44:56 PM)
I think we need the doctor chats fairly often for the newcomers

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:45:09 PM)
Good idea Tom. Maybe newcomers questions could be held for the day the Dr can come

Tom51 (Aug 24, 2005 9:45:26 PM)
Norma....Making that a scedule would at least give dr rick a break.

Maria (Aug 24, 2005 9:45:27 PM)
maybe some people have asked him to have chats on other times because they can't make it on Wed. That would make a difference in terms of brainstorming solutions

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:45:29 PM)
See, look at all the good ideas you guys are coming up with.

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:45:53 PM)
Good idea tom. I think we need to get input and then gather the input and see what conclusion we come up with.

CountryGirl (Aug 24, 2005 9:46:10 PM)
Well, I have to go work on my resume. See you-all

barb (Aug 24, 2005 9:46:12 PM)
I think Dr Ric was interested in varying the time for people who live in other time zones

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:46:31 PM)
For several reasons, I do not think it would work to have doctor chats on various days and various times.

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:46:34 PM)
Barb we chat at 8:30 for the west coast crowd

Moderator Viv (Aug 24, 2005 9:46:48 PM)
I have to agree with Norma.

Tom51 (Aug 24, 2005 9:46:52 PM)
norma...that would confuse too many

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:47:10 PM)
I have enough trouble remembering Wed nights

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:47:21 PM)
Barb, how can you accommodate people in all the time zones in the world?

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:47:36 PM)
not possible Norma

barb (Aug 24, 2005 9:47:39 PM)
yup---you 're right Norma

barb (Aug 24, 2005 9:47:54 PM)
guess that is the BE job--- Norma

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:48:01 PM)
Glaucoma patients in various time zones need to start asking their docs to follow the lead set by Wills!

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:48:33 PM)
Barb, and don't forget those chat highlights. People can read them any time.

Maria (Aug 24, 2005 9:48:35 PM)
perhaps people from other zones can send in ? prior to the discussion and then read the highlights for the answers

carol (Aug 24, 2005 9:48:59 PM)
Doubt that will happen Norma.

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:49:01 PM)
I haven't seen last weeks posted yet Norma?

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:49:54 PM)
Marie, there's a problem with that chat highlight. I wanted the doctor to review what he said and change some things.

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:50:15 PM)
Oh o.k. Figured it would show up sometime.

Tom51 (Aug 24, 2005 9:50:59 PM)
barb.....that's been my experiance

Joe G. (Aug 24, 2005 9:51:06 PM)
not as accurate Barb

carol (Aug 24, 2005 9:51:12 PM)
the puff is not as accurate as the slit lamp test

Maria (Aug 24, 2005 9:51:17 PM)
I put a candy in my mouth and that keeps me breathing

barb (Aug 24, 2005 9:51:39 PM)
I wonder if one chewed gum if the pressure would be lower?

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:51:43 PM)
Barb, I just refused to have my pressure taken with the air puff at the optometrists. I told the woman why. She said she was the guinea pig in the office when they wanted to test the machine. Don't think she will any more.

carol (Aug 24, 2005 9:51:51 PM)
Does anybody use the tono-pen to monitor their pressure at home?

Peg (Aug 24, 2005 9:52:04 PM)
Nite everyone

carol...you mean the proview monitor?

Maria (Aug 24, 2005 9:52:26 PM)
Carol, my doc tells me that it isn't that accurate

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:52:26 PM)
Taking John for a pressure check this afternoon. Be interesting to see what they are since he stopped the Cosopt for about 10 days.

barb (Aug 24, 2005 9:52:32 PM)
Norma--- what was your reason to refuse the puff test. Does it hurt the eye. I didnt mind it.

carol (Aug 24, 2005 9:52:39 PM)
Yes- i think that's what it is?

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:52:39 PM)
Time to get to work. See you all later. Carol, glad you found us.

Tom51 (Aug 24, 2005 9:52:44 PM)
nite norma

Joe G. (Aug 24, 2005 9:52:45 PM)
No i see the Dr's enough for them to get accurate readings

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:52:55 PM)
bye Norma

Joe G. (Aug 24, 2005 9:53:06 PM)
goodnight norma don't stay up too late.. :)

Maria (Aug 24, 2005 9:53:13 PM)
bye, Norma

barb (Aug 24, 2005 9:53:17 PM)
norma--- thanks for being at the chat

carol (Aug 24, 2005 9:53:50 PM)
Bye All - it's been great.

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:53:51 PM)
Barb, a retina specialist on the Institutional Review Board I as serving on for the JAEB Center for Health Research said he would never let anyone use an airpuff on him. That was good enough for me. Besides, the airpuff is not accurate!

Tom51 (Aug 24, 2005 9:53:51 PM)
I have to run as well....sleep well all.

Monitor Norma (Aug 24, 2005 9:54:02 PM)
Welcome, Barb.

marie (Aug 24, 2005 9:54:15 PM)
gotta go too people. In case John phones to say he can't cross the road and needs help to get back.

Norma-- I'm convinced

barb (Aug 24, 2005 9:55:02 PM)
airpuff -- goodbye
